The owners of 158 Ocean Beach Rd, Tairua make this property available for sale.

Arguably one of the most exclusive beachfront sections available on the Coromandel Peninsula if not the entire country, this is a huge site on one title, just under 6,000sq metres (7161 sq yards).  The property boasts a beach/dune frontage of 59 metres (64.5 yards), with a private beach track through the dunes to this magnificent golden sanded beach.

Views are unsurpassable from the Alderman Island Group and Shoe Island to the east, following the coastline north to the Mercury Islands.  To the west, views stretch back to the Coromandel Ranges including the impressive 'Pinnacles' mountains.

Ocean Beach faces due north and is considered one of the country's best surf beaches.  Typical of the area, the waters are crystal clear and temperate year round - 14 degrees celsius (57degrees farenhuit) in the winter to 20/22 degrees (72 degrees farenhuit) over summer. For those discerning surfers, the beach is relatively steep which means a lot of sand movement creating ever changing banks.  The north facing aspect and steepness of the beach means more swell catchment than anywhere else on the Coromandel coast.

Tairua also boasts a large, beautiful tidal harbour with ideal boat launching facilities at the base of Mt Paku (at the south end of the beach).  A substantial Marina is due to be completed later in the year.

The main dwelling is a large single level cedar clad home (in Queenslander style) with substantial return decks to ensure all day sun is captured.  There are 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and two seperate living areas, however it is the open planned living and kitchen areas that create the 'piece de resistance' with canterlevered roofing structure to ensure no corner supports to obstruct the world class views.

Also on the property is a recently constructed, significant, high studded garage and sleep-out.

The bulk of the property has been cleared awaiting further improvement and/or future development.  Much of the remaining area is maintained in natural dune foliage (lupens etc).

With existing house coverage already on approx 1500sq metres, further development is possible for 4-5 seperate sites.

This property is available for  negotiation - indicative price in excess of $5,000,000 (US$4,000,000) - inspection welcomed.

This is the most recent google earth photo - the section dominates the centre of the beach with only sand dunes between the property and the beach.  A privately shared driveway leads up to the entrance of the property further enhancing total privacy.

My wife hates me 'overdoing' the surf photos, however this provides an idea of the ever changing surf profile of the place - the top photo is a solid 4-5' day with perfect, pitching barrels.  Incidentally the surfer is Maz Quinn, NZ's top pro-surfer.

The bottom two shots are of the writers son, Alistair cruising on fun smaller days.

All photos taken straight in front of the house!!

Looking north from the living area - Neaves Bay and one of the Mercury Island Group in the distance.  The flax bushes surrounding the edge of the balcony are often crowded with one of our beautiful native birds the 'Tui'.

Looking up the track from the beach - not another house in sight!

Looking east to The Aldermans and in the foreground, Shoe Island (great diving and fishing around both).
Again, photo taken from deck of the house.

As something of a footnote,I need to state that I am not promoting this piece of paradise as a real estate agent, rather a proud but reluctant seller.  Alison and I have enjoyed one of the great family experiences in raising our children through summer and winter holidays at 158 Ocean Beach Rd watching them improve their respective surfing skills, playing late in to the evenings in and around the surrounding dunes, enjoying the disciplined activities of the local surf club, and honing their fishing and diving skills on offer up and down this amazing coastline.

Without any embellishment whatsoever, what you see in the above photos is, indeed, what you get!  If anything these photos do not do the property justice - I challenge any prospective buyer to find anything near comparison in any of the surrounding regions on either coast of this great country.
